Mwanza, Tanzania

In an effort to expand our impact on children with special needs in East Africa, specifically those with albinism, as well as visual and hearing impairment, LWCF made its first visit to Buhangija, located outside of Mwanza, Tanzania on our October 2019 trip to Africa. Special Ed teachers Mohamed and Bright gave us a warm welcome and filled us in on needs of students. There are many needs in the school and LWCF has taken on a special fundraising initiative in 2020 & 2021 to help meet some of these needs and support the improvement of the school and center.

Our first major projects to support the children at Buhangija are underway. This year we were awarded a grant by Friends of Tanzania to fund the construction of an audiology room for students with hearing immpairment. The construction is now in Phase 2 and when complete, it will serve the children of both Buhangija and Mitindo. We also recently launched our Campaign for Children with Vision and Hearing Impairment to purchase much needed supplies and equipment, including 200 hearing aids and related equipment for setup and maintenance for deaf children and educational supplies such as braille materials and abacuses for blind children living at these centers.

Please help us reach our goal for this campaign and make a donation today!
