The SAKALA Project is located in the notorious slum of Cite Soleil in Port au Prince. Started in 2006, SAKALA blends sports with youth leadership education, after-school activities, gardening, community development, and peace education in a safe environment to empower youth. The focus of the project is to divert young tent city residents from the influence of gangs by offering a safe place for them to experience positive and peaceful alternatives.
Students at the SAKALA project have been hard at work on artistic endeavors and developing their artistic talents. Check out some of the young artists and their work below and check out more photos on their Flickr Photostream.
