QUICK FACTS

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

In Haiti, LWCF supports Aigle Kindergarten and the Sakala Trash to Treasure Project and recently launched a new family sponsorship program.

Eagle (Aigle) School is a preschool and elementary school in the southern coastal town of Jacmel. Fanel Leme, the school’s director, uses a sliding scale for tuition, and children who would otherwise not be in school are getting a solid foundation as they begin their education. LWCF has helped Eagle School with school supplies, teacher stipends, and educational materials.

SAKALA’s Trash to Treasure program is a youth initiative where participants make art from found objects. LWCF has provided support for this project as well as computers, sports equipment, and funds for educational materials.

Started in 2006, SAKALA blends sports with youth leadership education, after-school activities, gardening, computer instruction, community development, and peace education in a safe environment to empower youth. The focus of the project is to divert young slum residents from the influence of gangs by offering a safe place for them to experience positive and peaceful alternatives.
