ACR Orphanage in Myanmar
An update on the current situation of ACR Orphanage, which has been uprooted from its original location in Myanmar to India following a destructive military coup in 2021.

Living Water has been supporting the ACR orphanage since 2018. The orphanage, originally located in a city in Chin State Myanmar, houses approximately 20 children, many of whom were found living in the streets or brought by distant relatives after their parents died or abandoned them. When Living Water Children’s Fund first became involved, the orphanage itself consisted of a bamboo structure with thatched walls and roof. There was little protection from the elements, the children had protein-deficient malnutrition, and education was limited.
Over the next few years, LWCF built the orphanage a sturdier shelter. We dug a well to provide fresh drinking water, built chicken coops so they could raise their own meat and eggs, and purchased oxen used to grow rice and grains for food. They began to thrive. However, a military coup in 2021 triggered mass protests and a nationwide civil war that resulted in severe military reprisals. As the military besieged their city, the orphanage staff had to act quickly and courageously, smuggling the children across the border into Mizoram, India, where they remain today.
The journey to safety was difficult, and their life in India now is filled with struggle. Food is limited, medical care nearly unaffordable, and the constant threat of deportation looms heavy. If returned to Myanmar, many of the children could be conscripted into military service for terms of up to 25 years.
Donations to this project support the orphanage’s existence in India, providing housing, medical care, clothing, and the basic supplies necessary to survive.
