My name is Edelqueen Bahati Kayaza. I was raised in the ghetto, and I am proudly a ghetto girl—unapologetically. Mukuru is where I come from, and it is from this very ghetto that I intend to rise to greatness. My dream is to become a freelance journalist, telling powerful stories through the lens. I want to capture moments and share the real stories of Africa with the world, using nothing more than knowledge, a pen, paper, and a camera—which is why my focus is in journalism.

I was deeply inspired when a Muzungu once visited DSCC and shared that part of her family could not travel to Kenya because they believed Africa is still a wilderness full of primitive people and dangerous diseases. It also hurt me when Melinda Gates said that during the COVID period, there would be dead bodies all over the streets and homes of Africans. These narratives strengthened my purpose: to tell the world that Africa—and Kenya in particular—is beautiful, with beautiful people, rich cultures, and powerful stories that deserve to be told with truth and dignity.

Every child deserves a chance ❤️
