A Letter from the Director - 2020

An annual year-end message from Living Water Children’s Fund founder and director, Sherry Fine, as she reflects on the impacts and accomplishments of the organization in 2020.

December 2020

Dear Friends and Family,

I write to you with a heart full of appreciation and with optimism about the months ahead. I continue to be impressed by the emails I receive with photos of the smiling faces of the children we have been supporting and with news of their many accomplishments. I am in awe of the hundreds of supporters who recognize the needs of the children we serve, and who have made a commitment to pay it forward, even in the midst of these turbulent times. Many thanks to those who believe in us and support our endeavors as we continue to assist children in vulnerable situations by providing medical care and educational and recreational prospects, giving hope where there was none.

Twelve years from our inception, we see the fruits of our labor of love. The first children we supported are now reaching adulthood. They have overcome obstacles of poverty, neglect, and abuse and are now moving forward with a desire to lead productive lives. Some are even earning university degrees. These young adults now carry the torch to support younger children in need and often take on the task of leading their families out of the vicious cycle of poverty. We couldn’t ask for a greater reward than that.

As this challenging year comes to a close, LWCF is proud of our accomplishments and we are even more motivated to continue the work we do. In addition to the many scholarships, medical, and educational materials we provide, this year we sent emergency funds for food, masks, and sanitizer to each of the projects we support in Haiti, Guatemala, Myanmar, Kenya and Tanzania. Please visit our website to get a look at what we are doing. Board members are looking forward to visiting our projects and documenting each visit with stories and photos we proudly share. We will undoubtedly identify new goals, as there is always a need.

It certainly takes a village and I am so proud to be a part of this village. We are touching lives in significant ways and I want to express our deep gratitude to you. In the midst of this pandemic, I end this letter by marveling at how much good there is in the world. This good is exemplified by the generosity of our donors, the compassion, commitment, and many hours spent by our board members and affiliated staff, the resilience and perseverance of the children we serve, the heroism of our front line workers, the volunteers feeding those waiting in long lines, and the brilliance of those who have worked tirelessly to create a vaccine that will give us a new-found freedom.
